This is the most important service that we offer. This is a project, usually lasting several days to weeks, in which we overhaul a business computing environment to produce an end state that is what we consider optimal. Microsoft Windows computers almost never arrive from the major manufacturers new in an optimal state. There are perverse incentives at work that result in new computers shipping with unnecessary third party software and insecure configurations. This can result in a significant degradation of performance compared to a pure configuration consisting solely of a security hardened operating system and drivers.
In order to achieve the results specified here, and to know your business network from the inside out, we prefer to rebuild each operating system, including workstations and servers, from a clean state. Why? Because that’s the only way to have complete knowledge of how a particular business computing environment operates. This great amount of effort on the front end will result in an environment that will be predictable, more manageable, and as trouble free as is possible to achieve.
The great physicist Richard Feynman said:
What I cannot create, I do not understand.
We think that our process is congruent with this view and that it’s a good thing.
We take great care to structure the project so as to not interrupt business operations. Computers, one by one, will be converted from the old to new configuration and reintroduced to operations. Steps, including the use of drive image backups, are also taken to ensure that there is no possibility of data loss.
We encourage management to compare performance of old versus new using system response times as a metric.
The process is as follows:
Site Survey And Review
The first step is a site survey in which equipment, software, and processes are examined. Discussions with management on the current state of IT affairs occur and areas of concern are noted to be addressed during the project.
We then produce a written report with our findings and recommendations, along with a written quote for the project.
Acquire Hardware And Software
If the computers, software, or telecommunications circuits are outdated and do not meet the business needs, new items will be ordered.
The actual changeover takes place. Data backups are performed and the actual work begins.
Usually overlapping or occurring concurrently with the implementation, employees and management are trained on any equipment or processes that have changed.
Transition to Managed Monthly IT support
After project completion, the business IT is considered secure and stable, and we are prepared to guarantee proper ongoing operation. Based on the size and complexity of the network, Bitstream manages all of the business IT needs for a flat monthly rate.
